NEW YORK, NY, November 08, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Wheelchair-dependent since childhood, psychologist Danielle Sheypuk is one of the foremost experts in America on the topics of dating, sex and relationships among people with disabilities.
The attractive 35-year-old Manhattanite found herself suddenly in demand from a variety of media when she snagged the title "Ms. Wheelchair New York" in 2012.
Now, Danielle is applying her expertise in a number of prestigious academic settings, facilitating empowerment sessions among girls and women with disabilities, and among other audiences.
In mid-October, Danielle was guest-speaker at New York University's Initiative for Women with Disabilities, speaking at the Young Women's Program (ages 14-21), part of a three-week discussion series focusing on Self-Advocacy. More than 20 target-age women attended the dynamic, interactive session. "It was a terrific and enlightening afternoon," said Danielle, "for me, as well as for the women and girls who shared stories of their life experiences and the barriers they are seeking to overcome."
At a different level of discourse, Danielle was guest-speaker at her alma mater, The New School for Social Research, in New York City on October 28, engaging with nine Psychology doctoral students in a class titled "Working with Diverse Populations: Disability and Sexuality." A sequel to this event will be an opportunity for Danielle to speak at a university-wide 2014 spring conference on issues of gender, sexuality, and intersectionality.
On the media/lifestyles side, Danielle recently modeled (photos/video) at three different locations in NYC for Handi-Lift Inc., makers of stairlifts, elevators and platform lifts for people with disabilities. The company's tagline is "Accessibility with Dignity Since 1975." The company reached out to Danielle to assist in creating a more hip, trendy image for the brand.
The clinical psychologist is also expanding her innovative private practice that employs Skype-based therapy sessions. Danielle engineers the sessions specifically to make it easier for people with disabilities to attend therapy sessions. She treats a variety of mental health issues, with a specialty focus in the areas of dating, relationships and sexuality.
Danielle has appeared in many diverse media venues, including The New York Daily News, The Daily Mail (U.K.), SiriusXM Doctor Radio, WNBC's Weekend Today in NY and The New York Nightly News, and WOR Radio's Valerie's New York. Danielle was also video-profiled for the Yahoo! Shine Network's Secrets to Your Success series. She has been interviewed for numerous podcasts, including Mperfect and Shrink Rap Radio. She has written columns for several disability magazines, including Quest (the national publication of the Muscular Dystrophy Association), Directions (the national publication of the Spinal Muscular Atrophy Association) and Women's E-news.
