Is Santa Claus' Love Affair with Mince Pies Over?

    MANCHESTER, ENGLAND, December 24, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- As much as Christmas is about tradition, according to new research from snack foods company Soreen, it seems that it's time for a change...particularly when it comes to Santa's staple diet of mince pies.

Recent research* suggests that although 81% of people still leave a mince pie out as a treat for our jolly, white-bearded friend, only 14% of plates are left clean and empty, suggesting a fair amount of pie wastage. There is some shifting of feeding patterns coming through already, with interesting alternatives such as a chocolate milkshake with sprinkles on top, hummus and even a cheque to sign, according to the Soreen study, whose own contribution to Santa treats this year is a brand new Festive Loaf (also suitable for reindeer).

And whilst variety is one challenge that needs embracing, satisfaction and successful fuelling up is another with so many houses to visit. Only half of those spoken to believe a mince pie would offer enough energy to make it back up the chimney - which is a little shy of making it around the world in one night. With his hectic schedule and the ever-growing population - the verdict is in - Santa needs that something extra to keep him going on his busiest night of the year.

It's better news for Rudolph though, with carrots seeing no reduction in popularity or rise in leftovers.
