Opalauctions Celebrates $10 Million in Online Opal Sales

    GOLD COAST, AUSTRALIA, January 07, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Opalauctions has now sold over 209,000 opals online worth over $10 million.

Buyers now have the confidence in purchasing opals online as they deal directly with opal miners or wholesaler at the best possible prices.

But at the start back in 2004 it wasn't easy, as there were a lot of buyer resistance to the new concept of purchasing opals online.

Managing Director Wayne Sedawie recalls the 2004 Tucson show where they initially launched Opalauctions at the show.

One the first day a customer came up and informed us that the internet was designed for war and should not be used for commerce and will never work.

On the same day a buyer who owned several opal shops looked at our concept and said people would never buy good opal over the internet!

The first 3 years the sales were very slow with only a few buyers and only budget opals being sold.

However, in the last few years people are increasing their confidence to buy online and as a result many opals worth over $10,000 have been sold, with the highest sale of $37,500 for a gem black opal.

We also target non-opal buyers to inform how rare a black opal actually is and many new buyers appreciate the rarity or owning a black opal.

Before the internet started, many people thought ancient roman coins were rare, but now we know Romans made over 100,000 coins per year with an empire lasting over 1,000 years. In perspective there are currently millions of these ancient coins available, even diamonds are not considered rare except for the coloured diamonds especially pink diamonds.

Our Verified Sellers are rigorously checked and approved by our Opal Sheriff Program, as it's compulsory that all buyers have product knowledge and are committed to the industry.

Our Sellers also compete against each other and offer No Reserve Auctions to buyers in order to provide buyer bargain purchase in this category.

Buyers have the advantage in purchasing, as a 'Make an Offer' category is available.

Commonly it is seen that a miner overprices a listing of an opal online due to the sheer excitement of the find.

If the miner was on a sole site he wouldn't have anything to compare the price of the opal, however on the Opalauctions website, they have set a fair market price so the opal miner would have to lower his price to compete with other sellers.

Opalauctions now have 100 sellers from all parts of the world ranging from Australia, USA, Ethiopia, Mexico, France, UK, Greece, Switzerland, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Slovakia and Hungary.

These sellers have sold opals to over 68 countries.
