Managua moving up eight places this year highlights its improving strengths as an outsourcing destination.
MANAGUA, NICARAGUA, January 07, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- In the 2014 Tholons Top 100 Outsourcing Destinations ranking recently published, Nicaragua's capital city Managua climbed eight spots to occupy the 87th position, becoming one of the three destinations in the world that most improved in the ranking.
The city with the greatest improvement worldwide was Wroclaw, Poland, rising 12 spots to the 65th position, followed by Cape Town, South Africa, which improved the same number of spots as Managua to reach the 60th position.
Within the Central American region (excluding San Juan, Puerto Rico), Managua is one of the three cities featured in the ranking and placed second behind San Jose, Costa Rica, which saw no change in its position, and followed by Guatemala City, Guatemala, which improved four positions.
Nicaragua was featured for the first time in this index in 2013, occupying the 95th position. Managua moving up eight places this year highlights its improving strengths as an outsourcing destination which include its strategic location, a great availability of qualified human resources, modern infrastructure, the region's most competitive cost structure, and attractive fiscal incentives.
The first outsourcing company in Nicaragua began operations in 2003 with just 12 employees that provided healthcare services to the United States. Today the industry has grown to nearly 6,000 employees providing services to Latin America, Europe and the United States. Some major players operating in Nicaragua's outsourcing sector include Sitel, Stream Global Services, Transactel, Concentrix, and Connect International.
The country has also been implementing more targeted marketing and promotion activities to encourage investment in the outsourcing sector. For instance, last year Nicaragua hosted the first annual Central American Nearshore Summit (CANS) with the participation of over 110 businessmen mainly from the U.S. and the Central American region. The event promoted the entire region as an outsourcing destination and was coordinated by the investment promotion agencies of Nicaragua, Guatemala, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Honduras.
