"We have developed and positioned a silicone dressing that removes the obstacle of price for our customers."
ATLANTA, GA, January 18, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- MediPurpose(tm), a manufacturer and master distributor of medical products, today announced availability of its new MediPlus(tm) Silicone Comfort Foam dressings.
An expansion to the MediPlus(tm) Advanced Wound Care portfolio, the new foam dressings feature a bordered silicone adhesive. They are immediately available in four commonly used sizes: 3x3 inches, 4x4 inches, 6x6 inches, and 7.2 x 7.2 inches (sacral).
MediPurpose Wound Care Marketing Manager Valerie C. Johnson said that soft silicone dressings were first introduced in the early 1980s as premium products and used for patients with challenging wounds, particularly since the dressings may be removed without causing additional pain or damage to the wound or to the surrounding skin.
"Since silicone is chemically inert, reactions to this material are rare," said Johnson. "Results of studies performed have shown that they do not cause skin reactions or systemic toxicity. Soft silicone is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and is recommended by clinicians around the world for the management of wounds."
Answering a Growing Demand for Silicone Wound Dressings
Recent changes in healthcare reimbursement have shifted the focus to a "triple aim" approach of quality outcomes, patient experience and costs of care, said Johnson. As a result, providers and suppliers have shifted their perspectives about silicone dressings from "premium" to "must have" dressings. With analogous growing demand for soft silicone dressings, manufacturers such as MediPurpose are responding by introducing more cost-effective products into the market.
"Because many clinicians consider foam dressings with silicone adhesive to be the standard of care for exuding wounds, we want to provide them with a means to meet their wound care goals," said Johnson. "We have developed and positioned a silicone dressing that removes the obstacle of price for our customers."
The new MediPlus(tm) Silicone Comfort Foams are suitable for most indications (excluding third-degree burns and infected wounds), said Johnson. The adhesive properties of soft silicone are especially important to help anchor and protect the wound bed, its surrounding skin, and to help decrease the pain associated with dressing changes.
"There are many different types of soft silicone dressings, such as wound contact layers, sheets for scar treatment, and, in the case of our new dressing, highly absorbent foam dressings with silicone adhesive for exuding wounds--a staple item needed for every wound care formulary," explained Johnson.
"In today's healthcare environment, it's no longer about if providers can increase their budget to acquire top-branded products--it's about providing products that can meet the same or better clinical need, to benefit more patients."
