Retail Use of Digital Signage Continues to Grow

Retail Radio sees the trend continuing.

SACRAMENTO, CA, January 31, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A recent study shows that digital signage is still becoming increasingly popular -- and retail establishments are leading the way. According to a study done by IHS Inc., a market-information and analytics company based in Englewood, Colo., the global digital signage market grew 5.6 percent in 2013 to nearly $14 billion. The retail market continues to be the largest source of revenue for the digital signage industry. IHS predicts that the retail sector will constitute 42 percent of digital signage revenue from 2013 to 2017.

Digital signage allows a business to present multimedia content to customers via in-store monitors. Displays can include television, advertising, promotions, custom RSS feeds, digital menu boards for restaurants and much more.

Retailers today are using digital signage in new ways. For example, analytics software gives store owners real-time information on store activities. Store owners can then -- often via mobile phone -- change the content on the store's digital signage to slash prices on surplus products, for example. With today's more robust digital signage software and hardware, content can be more tailored to customers based on real-time data.

Retailers are also including their HTML 5 web assets in their digital signage content, leveraging attractive assets they already have. Touchscreens and swiping capabilities are also being more widely used in digital signage, as retailers keep pace with tech-savvy consumers who want interactivity. Video walls, custom-shaped screens, video columns, and 4K images are also being increasingly used.

It's a trend that should continue, according to Retail Radio, a fast-growing California company that helps retailers build their brands through digital signage, in-store music, scent products and more. "The benefits of digital signage have already been well documented, but it's interesting that retailers are still finding new ways to use digital signage," said Aaron Bennett of Retail Radio. "The momentum of digital signage will continue, because it's so flexible and easy to use, while delivering compelling imagery and information. Consumers want information that's easy to absorb, and digital signage is a great way to deliver that."
