Marian Hester Honored for Excellence in Banking and Finance

    /24-7PressRelease/ -- JOHANNESBURG, February 6, 2013, Marian Hester, Managing Principal and Co-General Counsel of Absa Corporate and Investment Banking for Barclays Africa, has been recognized for showing dedication and excellence in team leadership.

Backed by nearly two decades of industry experience, Ms. Hester parlays six years into her position with Barclays Africa. As managing principal and co-general counsel of Absa Corporate and Investment Banking, she applies her expertise in leadership to develop quality business teams, and help employees achieve common goals and corporate objectives. On a daily basis, Ms. Hester is jointly responsible for managing the legal department, including a 130-person staff serving 13 sub-Saharan African countries, and overseeing principal legal risks and mitigation. She is distinguished as an effective partner to executive management. Ms. Hester is a member of the company's markets executive committee and the senior leadership group.

Marian has occupied several directorship and trusteeship positions during her career. She currently serves as a non-executive director of the New Leaders Foundation (NLF), a nonprofit organization that strives to improve education in South African schools by enhancing support to teachers and school management from district offices. In former years, she was head of legal and compliance for Sanlam Capital Markets, a boutique investment banking services provider, as well as a private equity investment executive and an attorney.

Among her accomplishments, Ms. Hester was recently inducted into Worldwide Branding. She was also accepted into the prestigious Leadership Foundation Fellowship Programme by the International Women's Forum. She attributes her success to her ability to help articulate the demands on leadership and appropriate responses to stakeholder needs. Ms. Hester holds degrees in languages and law from Stellenbosch University, her law degree having been completed on exchange with Katholieke Universiteit Leuven.
