The Vikings, Fatal Attraction and Blithe Spirit all come to London in March

Significant new exhibitions opening in London in March include 'Vikings: Life and Legend', launching on 6th March, which gives members of the public their first glimpse of the British Museum's brand new Sainsbury Exhibitions Gallery on the ground floor of the World Conservation and Exhibitions Centre designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners.

The National Gallery stages a major display of works by Italian painter Paolo Veronese, and prominent architect and designer in Georgian Britain William Kent is under the spotlight at the Victoria & Albert Museum. Ruin Lust at Tate Britain attempts to answer, and annual favourites the Affordable Art Fair in Battersea, RCA Secret, and Designs of the Year return with renewed vigour.

March is a big month for live music in London, with Ellie Goulding, The Wanted, Drake and Tinie Tempah all performing live in London, and there's more music from Birdy, Bastille, Bombay Bicycle Club, and HAIM, all nominated for BRIT awards this year. Classical and opera highlights include a rare appearance by Dame Kiri Te Kanawa at the Royal Opera House, the six-week London Handel Festival, and the Southbank's annual Chorus festival which this year coincides with Pull Out All The Stops, a celebration of the restoration of the Royal Festival Hall's iconic organ.

In dance, Sara Baras kicks off the Flamenco Festival London, the world's leading male ballet dancers perform at the London Coliseum, Pilobolus Dance Theatre perform 'Shadowland', and Move It, the UK's largest dance event, unites dance of all types under one roof at Olympia.

Russell Brand, Jack Whitehall, Miranda Hart give us something to laugh in March about while Julian Clary is at St James Theatre every Thursday and Friday night throughout the month, and Irish comics Rubberbandits light up Shakespeare's Globe's new candle-lit theatre. Ruby Wax is just one of the female comics lined up for WOW - Women of the World Festival at the Southbank Centre. Comedy and sport combine for Sport Relief, and in serious sporting news, England play Wales in the Six Nations on Sunday 9th March, while the England football team play their first match of 2014 on 5th March at Wembley Stadium.

The Russian festival Maslenitsa is marked with a free Mayor-backed event at Trafalgar Square which becomes a sea of green on Sunday 16th March for St Patrick's Day. London's most fashionable festival, the Vogue Festival, brings a well-heeled crowd to the Southbank Centre, CircusFest returns to the Roundhouse, while Hackney Empire celebrates Mother's Day with a Touch of Class, a night of music and comedy with the cast of TV's The Real McCoy.
