Ms. Baum has 10 years of experience in the industry, with three years in her current role. She is skilled in getting information compiled for a market, team, opportunity or competitors and making an assessment, aligning the objectives to the company, agreeing to them and helping to implement them. Her duties are operating at the strategic operating level; doing a lot of work in new markets; putting together strategic business plans for the Northern Territory; giving input to the structure of a plan; working on an opportunity-by-opportunity basis; managing the tracking of opportunities, such as Northern Territory construction; providing the strategy for major opportunities; and ensuring that they have the right resource in the right place with the right budget to win.

She conducted strategic planning for PNG and NT, and contributed to winning $1.9 billion worth of business in the past 12 months. In five years, Ms. Baum plans for continued professional growth.
She attributes her success to her perseverance and tenacity. She became involved in her profession because her background is in public relations. In the 1980s, she earned a Bachelor of Business in communications at QUT, and public relations was a new industry in Australia. She went through a series of a few jobs and was learning. She ended up in London for a year and took on a role with a Gold Coast company; when she came back to Australia, she started her own public relations company and enjoyed working in the engineering sector. The opportunity came up at Leighton for a role, which did not previously exist, to create a stakeholder and community relations team. She always liked new areas and structures, and accepted the position.
She is the Chair of Women in Industry's Queensland Group and a member of the Public Relations Institute of Australia. She was awarded a Communication Campaign Commendation from the Public Relations Institute of Australia. She assists the Animals Australia and World Wildlife Foundation.
