CALGARY, AB, March 09, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- CoolSculpting, the liposuction alternative now offered near Calgary at the ReNue (www.renue.ca) Airdrie medical spa, provides patients a non-surgical way to target fat using cool energy, according to medical director Dr. Jason McWhirter.
"CoolSculpting is a very impressive treatment," says Dr. McWhirter. "Men and women who want to get rid of love handles or belly fat but who don't want to undergo a surgical procedure such as liposuction are excellent candidates for CoolSculpting."
The non-surgical cosmetic treatment is clinically proven to reduce fat using a cooling process that does not damage other tissue, unlike fat-reducing procedures that rely on laser or sonic energy, says Dr. McWhirter. The advantage, he says, is that CoolSculpting is an outpatient treatment that doesn't require downtime for recovery.
That is one of the reasons Dr. McWhirter added CoolSculpting to the menu of treatments at ReNue's medical spa. It fits perfectly, the Calgary doctor says, "into the clinic's goal of balancing good medicine with the latest in minimally invasive or non-invasive cosmetic procedures."
Dr. McWhirter established ReNue more than 10 years ago to offer non-surgical cosmetic and skincare treatments. As a Fellow of the Canadian College of Family Physicians, Dr. McWhirter has a special interest designation in dermatology and skin aesthetics. He established the Airdrie medi spa to complement his Calgary clinic.
The CoolSculpting procedure uses a process called cryolipolyisis to destroy fat cells by exposing them to cold temperatures without damaging the skin. There is also no need to remove the dead fat cells because they are naturally absorbed by the body over the course of 2 to 3 months.
Dr. McWhirter says CoolSculpting takes between 1 to 3 hours for a single procedure, depending on the treatment plan he formulates based on a patient's cosmetic goals. A treatment can result in a fat reduction of about 20%, he says.
"I'm excited to offer my medi spa patients this cutting-edge technology, which can be combined with minimally invasive facial rejuvenation procedures for a complete cosmetic makeover."
