We are set to produce a first-rate, low-budget film in the same vein as the legendary low-budget filmmaker, Robert Rodriguez.
RIO RANCHO, NM, March 25, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rio Rancho, New Mexico indie writer/director, Mark Tarrant announces plans to shoot a feature film called Blood and Spurs in New Mexico. A western with the feel of a video game, the film is being touted as Mortal Kombat meets the Wild West.
"We are set to produce a first-rate, low-budget film in the same vein as the legendary low-budget filmmaker, Robert Rodriguez," says Tarrant.
Tarrant hopes to start production of the full-length Blood and Spurs feature film this summer. To make it happen, he turned to the crowdfunding site Kickstarter (www.SupportBloodandSpurs.com) in hopes of raising $35,000.
Tarrant says a large chunk of that will go to securing the famed Bonanza Creek Ranch for the shoot. The Santa Fe-area ranch has been the backdrop for films like Cowboys and Aliens, Appaloosa, Wild Hogs, 3:10 to Yuma and Kid Nation.
The author and musician has a great foundation for the project by producing a high- quality trailer in only 7 hours and on a budget of just $700.
"Everyone said it was crazy to try to pull off a Western like this on such a low budget," says Tarrant. "But when people see the fight scenes, the set, the props, the wardrobes, the number of extras - they're blown away at the quality."
The trailer features lead actors Clint Glenn Hummel (The Quick and The Dead, Castle), Jackamoe Buzzell (Longmire, CSI), and James Blackburn (The Lone Ranger, 3:10 to Yuma) plus 35 extras.
Said Hummel. "A fighting tournament in the wild west really got my attention. Every few years an independent film project comes along that everyone agrees is cool and Blood and Spurs is one of them."
Tarrant's proud to offer a community project based right on his home turf.
"A lot of great TV shows and movies are shot in New Mexico," says Hummel. "Mark has created all the conditions to create a fantastic movie and I am honored to be a part of it."
The Blood and Spurs campaign is offering donors everything from T-shirts and autographed photos, to the chance to be on set or part of the cast, or to literally be the face of a wild west "wanted poster" to show appreciation for support.
"This movie could be the next big thing out of New Mexico," says actor James Blackburn. "I believe in this writer and storyline. It's the movie opportunity of a lifetime and I can't wait to start production."
The Blood and Spurs film crowd-funding campaign runs until April 16th. Learn more at www.SupportBloodandSpurs.com
