PALMERSTON NORTH, NEW ZEALAND, April 1, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Diane Leggett, Director of the Center for Educational Development at Massey University of New Zealand has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in education.
Ms. Leggett has 40 years of professional experience, with three years as director of the Center for Educational Development at Massey University of New Zealand. Over the years, Ms. Leggett has established herself as an expert in time management, as well as staff development, leadership, research, data analysis, training, critical thinking and curriculum development. On a daily basis, she is responsible for providing professional learning opportunities and support for early childhood, primary and secondary teachers in the regional area.
Ms. Leggett has been a secondary teacher of music and mathematics for seven years and a primary teacher and principal for 20 years. She has gained vast experience in the educational sector after working as the principal of Karori Normal School in Wellington for nine years. She also worked as a senior adviser in mathematics for six years and a manager of contracts for two years at what was formerly known as Wellington College of Education. Ms. Leggett states, "I am an advocate for quality teaching and learning to improve outcomes for students."
She added, "Traveling to South Africa as part of an educational tour comparing/contrasting their education system with New Zealand's education system was important. Much of our time was spent in Durban and surrounds. To observe children from village schools relishing education in poor facilities showed how important teachers can be in changing the lives of so many. It is an absolute privilege to work with children and to make a difference in their futures."
Looking back, Ms. Leggett attributes her success to hard work and devotion, combined with a desire to improve outcomes for our children. She became involved in her profession through a natural progression of opportunities. The highlight of her career was being appointed as the principal of Karori Normal School in Wellington.
Ms. Leggett received a Bachelor of Music, as well as a Master of Education from Victoria University. In addition to her degrees, she received a Diploma of Education from Canterbury University. She was recently inducted into Worldwide Branding and also maintains affiliation with RFNZJA Inc., NZEI Te Riu Roa, NZEALS and NZAMT. In 2010, she was presented with a Ministry of Education Sabbatical Award, and she received the Ernest Duncan NZAMT Award in 1991. In years to come, Ms. Leggett hopes to experience continued growth, while still helping children in the field of education.
