Blignaut, Department Head of Family Medicine in the Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region, has been named a Worldwide Who's Who Professional of the Year in Family Medicine. While inclusion in Worldwide Who's Who is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Worldwide Who's Who membership.
Dr. Blignaut has over 25 years of experience in health care both abroad and in Canada, with five years as the Department Head of Family Medicine of the Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region. In the course of his duties, he is currently responsible for providing support and leadership to 200 family physicians in RQHR, working to identify under serviced areas and improve access to primary health care for patients, participating in lean leadership training, and helping to establish primary health care sites in collaboration with members of the department family medicine and RQHR administration. Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region is a health care delivery system that provides tertiary health care services to Southern Saskatchewan. He is continues to be in active clinical practice. He believes he can only provide leadership if he continues to practice as a family physician.
Dr. Blignaut attributes his success to loving what he does, staying focused, working hard, and remaining dedicated. He was exposed to his profession by his father whom is an orthopaedic surgeon and his mother who was a nurse. He has a passion for the art of medicine and wants to improve the image of the profession. Dr. Blignaut received his degree, Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MB.ChB.) from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, in 1987, and continued post graduate training in Orthopaedic Surgery and Internal Medicine at the University of Pretoria until 1989. He passed the Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC) in 2001.
In years to come, he hopes to expand his administrative experience.
