ZUIDHOM, NETHERLANDS, April 18, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- ID Consulting Director, Professor Cees Smit Sibinga, MD, Ph.D., FRCP, FRCPath, has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in blood diseases and transfusion medicine.
Dr. Smit Sibinga has dedicated nearly 40 years to the health care field, specifically, diseases of the blood.He has been involved in the development of transfusion medicine for economically-restricted countries since 1980 - experience that spurred him to develop ID Consulting, a health care consultancy aimed at providing guidance in the development, management and operations of transfusion medicine.
At ID Consulting, Dr. Smit Sibinga provides expert consultations for health organizations regarding the development and implementation of quality blood supply programs for developing countries. This includes the selection process associated with donors and testing, which helps to reduce the spread of HIV. Prior to creating the firm, Dr. Smit Sibinga worked with the World Health Organization, the World Federation of Hemophilia and the International Consortium for Blood Safety. He was also the medical director and founder of the Dutch Regional Blood Bank in Groningen.
Apart from his work with ID Consulting, Dr. Smit Sibinga serves as a professor of international development of transfusion medicine at the University Medical Center Groningen and the University of Groningen, where he received a medical degree in 1965 and a Ph.D. in 1972. He is a certified clinical hematologist and has been certified as a FRCPath and FRCPEdin in transfusion medicine.
Dr. Smit Sibinga was invited to Harvard Medical School as part of the Grand Rounds Lecture Series in 2010. He is an honorary member of the Dutch, Brazilian, Hellenic, Hungarian and Indian Societies for Blood Transfusion and Immunohematology. Dr. Smit Sibinga was recently inducted into Worldwide Branding and maintains affiliations with the World Hemophilia Federation, the European Society for Hamaphersis, AABB and ISBT . He is also a recipient of the Joel Solomon Memorial Award for Quality and Management in Transfusion Medicine. In the coming years, Dr. Smit Sibinga aims to support developing countries and provide them with a sustainable blood supply chain.
