festival dedicated to addressing Human Rights, Children's Advocacy, Animal Rights and Environmental Preservation through film, visual arts and music, has been honored with the official proclamation that Mayor James K. Hahn has declared Wednesday, April 20th, 2005 as "Artivist Day", (a day to celebrate activism through the arts), for the City of Los Angeles, it was announced by Artivist founder and President Diaky Diaz.
The 2nd annual Artivist Film Festival and Awards takes place April 20, 2005 through April 24, 2005 at the famed Egyptian Theatre in the heart of Hollywood.
Actor/Activist James Cromwell made the official on-stage announcement during a special launch party kicking off the 2005 Artivist season at The Sunset Room on February 10, 2005. He also urged people to "support Artivist and its mission of promoting activism though film, music and the arts to help make Artivist the most important film festival in the world!".
The launch party also consisted of special musical performances by Lili Haydn, Damon Elliott, The Fall Water Project and Shaheen Sheik.
"We are thrilled and grateful to have an Artivist Day proclaimed in Los Angeles and thank both Mayor Hahn and James Cromwell for their unwavering support and recognition," said Diaz,
"Activist filmmakers can become a powerful voice for positive change in our global community as their films educate, inspire create awareness and ultimately encourage people to contribute to
the improvement of our world."
In addition to Cromwell, Artivist Film Festival And Awards 2005 will recognize the outstanding contributions of Mira Sorvino for her work with Amnesty International and international human rights as well as two additional celebrities for their respective work for Global Green benefiting environmental preservation and Prevent Child Abuse which fights for Children's Advocacy.
Artivist Film Festival and Awards follows on the highly-successful footsteps of the inaugural Artivist Film Festival that was held last April which attracted thousands of people, hundreds of
international filmmakers, producers and artists from 14 countries, all of whom participated in the screening of 89 films. Highlights of the last year's festival included screenings of such notable
films as Academy Award nominees Super Size Me and Born Into Brothels. This year these numbers are expected to increase tremendously..
