FRANKSTON, VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA, April 25, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ --4, Joseph S. Agbenyega, Senior Lecturer and Course Leader of Monash University has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in higher education.
Dr. Agbenyega has 12 years of professional experience, with seven years with Monash and three years as a senior lecturer and course leader of Masters Programs in Early childhood Education at Monash University. Throughout his career, he has established himself as an expert in the education of young children with special needs or disabilities. On a daily basis, he is responsible for conducting research on early childhood development and inclusive education, as well as providing student consultations and supervising Ph.D. students.
Before coming to Monash, Dr. Agbenyega served as the head of the population unit at the University of Ghana, Legon from 2006 to 2007. He was a visiting fellow to the Ghana National Television Institute in Accra. Currently, he is visiting scholar at the University of Cape Coast in Ghana, State University of Jakarta in Indonesia and Kasetsart University in Bangkok, Thailand. He also teaches research methods and special education units to Monash students at Kaplan Institute in Singapore. In 2001, Dr. Agbenyega received the Sir John Monash award for academic excellence. He was awarded the Australian Leaders Fellowship in 2010 and developed early childhood curriculum for the Orthodox Greek Church Teachers' College project in Sierra Leone, Africa, a year earlier. Dr. Agbenyega is aMonash University representative on the Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development Workforce Advisory Group. He has been approached recently to serve as a consultant to SEED Institute in Singapore focusing on early childhood development and inclusion. He is also leading a project that involves education directors from the special education bureau of the Ministry of Education in Thailand. His research interest focuses on early childhood development, policy, inclusion, disability and marginalization and social transformation. He is currently the chair of the early childhood master's course advisory team at Monash University.
Dr. Agbenyega attributes his success to his experience and exposure, as well as his publications and his work with a government advisory board for curriculum development and professional training. He became involved in his profession because he wants to make a difference in children's lives as a professional educator and leader. The highlight of his career has been attracting research funding totaling nearly $1.5 million over the past eight years. He has also presented keynote addresses in international conferences in Africa, Australia and Asia.
Dr. Agbenyega received an Ed.D. in education from Monash University in 2005 and a bachelor's degree in education from Monash University, where he graduated with first class honors in 2002. He has also earned a Bachelor of Education in mathematics and special education from the University of Education, Winneba in 2000 and a Diploma of Education in mathematics and special education from the University of Winneba in 1999. He was recently inducted into Worldwide Branding and also maintains affiliation with the World Education Research Association, the International Inclusive Teacher Education Researchers' Forum, the Australian Association for Research in Education, Education for Rural Transformation (ERT), the Inclusive Teacher Education Research Group, and the Early Childhood and Family Research Group. In years to come, Dr. Agbenyega would like to become a full-time professor and focus on consulting.
