Giddy Up and Go, the Inaugural Middleburg Road Race Will Raise Awareness for "Healthy Heads"

    ASHBURN, VA, May 01, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Hundreds of runners are expected to hit the back country roads of Middleburg, Virginia on Sunday, May 18, 2014 to participate in the first annual Giddy Up and Go 15k/5k Race for Healthy Heads. The event will take place on the rolling grounds of Locust Hill Farm and provides runners a unique opportunity to enjoy a scenic course with breathtaking views while supporting an important cause. The Inaugural Giddy Up and Go Race for Healthy Heads is the 'brainchild' of five spirited Northern, VA women who joined forces to promote initiatives for brain injury, stroke, brain tumor and cancer research. Lisa Millar, founder of The Brad Kaminsky Foundation has been organizing events all over the country, raising funds and awareness for brain tumor and cancer research since her brother, Brad Kaminsky, passed away from a malignant brain tumor over 13 years ago. Kathleen McFarlane of Ashburn, VA formed her event company, KatMac events, to expand her love of running while raising funds for local charities. Friends for many years, the two women united professionally when McFarlane lost her father to a sudden stroke, and the duo, determined to organize a road race, said this fundraiser was a "no brainer."

The Brad Kaminsky Foundation has been hosting a race in Los Angeles to benefit cutting edge brain tumor vaccine research at UCLA where Middleburg resident, Porcha Dodson, is currently employed in the neurosurgery department. As a result, introductions were made and local Middleburg resident, Maggie Bryant, stepped in to host Giddy Up and Go at her Locust Hill Farm in Middleburg. Bryant's granddaughters, Mason Bryant Howard and Sarah Crane, direct the HOW Foundation (Help our Wounded), a not for profit that provides treatment and research of cutting edge hyperbaric oxygen treatment for brain injuries. The Healthy Heads event will raise awareness and funds for brain tumor and cancer, stroke and brain injury treatment.

Giddy Up and Go is a 15k or 5k (walkers welcome), chip timed race on the rolling fields of the Locust Hill Farm and will begin at 8 a.m. on Sunday, May 18, 2014. Registration is now open at www.giddyupandgorace.com The Middleburg community is uniting to provide pre and post-race activities including music, food, water stations and local vendors. Top three male and female runners in each age division will receive a special medal. The Fastest Team will win a prize and special recognition, The Top Fundraising team will win a special Hunt Breakfast for 10 people at the Farm and special recognition and the School team with the most runners will win a cash prize of $1,000 for their school. Tyler Roth, a Broad Run High School Senior will speak about his experience with brain injury. Participant medals will go to all 15k finishers. It is not too late to get your school team involved. Currently the McLean High School, StoneBridge High school, The Hill School and Broad Run High school are going "head to head" for that cash prize.
