RUGBY, ND, May 20, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- International Watercolorist Caroline A. Doucette has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in fine art.

A third generation artist, Ms. Doucette has long been passionate about the arts and creativity. She is now an internationally renowned watercolorist with more than 25 years of professional experience. She is particularly noted for her ability paint florals and flags. Ms. Doucette has shown her paintings in numerous venues and exhibits in North Dakota, Massachusetts, Texas, and New York. Her work can also be seen in many print publications, including the summer 1996 and spring 2000 issues of Watercolor magazine. Her painting "To Life" is featured in the book "Splash 5: The Glory of Color."

In 2010, Ms. Doucette sat down with Cambridge Who's Who to discuss her career. She feels that her passion for painting flowers stems from her appreciation for the plants as a fun and playful element of nature that lends itself extremely well to artistic media. Originally, she found that they were simple, but after working with them extensively, she rediscovered their hidden complexity, as she was able to re-invent the wheel, so to speak, playing with their colors and shadows to get every detail just right. In practice, Ms. Doucette enjoys using a simple palette of red, blue and yellow, which covers the spectrums of cool and warm. In so doing, she can create rich, brilliant, vivid and clean colors that will sit on her hot press paper in a delightful way. "I like to make the leaf curl away and the petal look soft and fuzzy," says Ms. Doucette. "It is how the peach has weight and the autumn leaf crunches under foot. The more I painted flowers, and gardened, the more I viewed myself, and flowers, as one, with a quiet strength, that's bold and has a beauty despite any flaws. In the flower is the continuous circle of life with the dreams of tomorrow."

Ms. Doucette feels that her flag paintings are not radically different from her flowers, in terms of technique. She takes great pride in replicating the texture of the rolling fabric as it cascades naturally, as though in a spring breeze. While the painting of American flags became particularly popular after 9/11, Ms. Doucette had been painting them long before that time, as they were a part of her family's heritage. "My maternal grandfather joined the US Army in WWI for his citizenship," says Ms. Doucette. "His sons, my uncles, served in WWII. My mother was in the Army, during the Korean War, when she met my father, who was in the Air Force. The Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines each got one of my four brothers. I, myself, served in the Army at the end of Vietnam Conflict."

Ms. Doucette's distinct style has been honed over years of study and practice. In 1979, she took a course in watercolors with Kay Kandra at Rivier College. She also completed coursework with Elise Kohl at the Nashua Center of Arts in 1990. Ms. Doucette has remained current in her field through signature memberships with the New England Watercolor Society, Red River Watercolor Society, and Pennsylvania Watercolor Society, and affiliations with organizations such as the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club. Ms. Doucette has garnered a number of awards and recognition over the years for her work. Most recently, she was distinguished as an Elite American Artist.
