CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA, May 25, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Notus Sports and Event Management Group recently announced the first tournament in a series of charity golf tournaments it will run: the Notus Sports Challenge at Birdwood Golf Course on June 19. This tournament will benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society's (NMSS) Blue Ridge Chapter in Charlottesville, VA.
Individuals and teams can register for the tournament at NotusSports.com/OurEvents or in person at the Charlottesville Golf Center or Birdwood Golf Course for $100 per person or $400 per four-person team. Proceeds from registrations and sponsorships will be earmarked for fitness programs for local Multiple Sclerosis (MS) patients through the local NMSS chapter.
MS is a disease in which the protective covering (myelin) of the nerves becomes damaged by the body's immune system, which interferes with communication between the brain, spinal cord and the rest of the body, creating a huge range of symptoms from visual problems and tingling sensations to difficulty speaking and moving around. Symptoms may come and go, progress over time, and vary widely based on the extent of the myelin damage and the nerves affected. While certain treatments may help some patients, there is currently no known cure.
"Funding research into MS is incredibly important in the long term," said Glen Slosson, CEO of Notus Sports, "but getting current patients into fitness programs is something we can do right now--today--to help them feel better, ease the progression of their symptoms and improve their overall wellbeing."
Lisa Eorio, a Charlottesville resident who has had MS for 39 years, knows fitness is essential to managing life with MS. "You can find a way to live with this disease as best you can by staying healthy and staying active," she said. "You have to get up and move as much as possible and try as best you can to keep off extra weight that makes it even harder for your muscles to move."
Players are invited to register between now and June 18 to take part in this powerful fundraiser. Notus Sports also welcomes sponsors to fill open sponsorship opportunities. To support this charity event through sponsorship, contact Glen Slosson at [email protected].
