NEW YORK, NY, May 24, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- On May 31 at the premiere of BookCon at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City, Brian K. Hemphill, author of The Elements of Creative and Expressive Artistry, will be offering in-booth presentations to educators, art patrons, and creative artists as well as launching a "Gift My Book to Your Favorite Library" campaign to foster donations of his book by patrons to libraries. "Right now, many community libraries are suffering from deep cuts to their budgets, handicapping their ability to maintain their book collections, much less expanding them. Some libraries simply lack the funds to acquire new titles. There are some wonderful book titles that library book readers will never discover because the books don't exist on the shelves. My gift-a-book campaign is a way to ease the financial stresses on library budgets while making my book more accessible" Hemphill said.

Hemphill outlined the campaign as follows. When BookCon patrons purchase a copy of The Elements of Creative and Expressive Artistry for themselves and a library, the buyer receives a 10% book discount on both books. In return, each book patron is recognized with a "This book is donated by" label on an inside book page acknowledging the benefactor's donation. For donations within the United States, the author will then, free of charge, ship each book to the donor's library of choice. International shipping will incur a small, at-cost fee. "As a child I spent many delightful hours at my local library browsing the book stacks and reading as many books as I could. It definitely provided me a lifelong appreciation for knowledge of all forms. Libraries are a vital resource to any community. Access to great books should not depend on a person's economic means. A great book can spark the dreams and imagination of future readers. Many great books have definitely sparked mine," Hemphill said.

In addition to his "Gift A Book" campaign launch, Hemphill will be presenting several in-booth workshops for trade and consumer attendees. At 10:30 A.M., for educators and librarians, Hemphill presents "Enriching the Arts Experience for Creative Arts Students." Hemphill also illustrates how to use The Elements of Creative and Expressive Artistry to support arts curricula and research. At 2:00 P.M., for creative artists, Hemphill presents "Revitalize Your Artistic Expression!" This presentation shows artists of all disciplines how understanding the elements of expressive artistry can enhance their work. Additionally, on the Uptown Stage - Booth #1376, from 11:30 A.M. - 12:30 P.M., Hemphill serves as a panelist on "How to Book It to the Big Screen" by BOOK2FILM.

Designated an editor's choice book selection for writing excellence by iUniverse, The Elements of Creative and Expressive Artistry is an all-artist guide aimed at improving the artistry of visual artists, writers, and performers of all levels. The book identifies the nine sets of root elements and 36 branch elements common to all artistic fields and their significance to expressive artistry. The Elements of Creative and Expressive Artistry uses hundreds of relevant examples, citations, and quotations from prominent art professionals, philosophers, scientists, past and present, to support the more than 40 chapters of the book. Throughout the warm and insightful narrative, Hemphill offers advice from authors, painters, sculptors, dancers, choreographers, actors, film directors, musicians, teachers, psychologists, scientists, philosophers, and critics writing on all forms of art, including visual arts, literary arts, dramatic arts, musical arts, dance arts, and hybrid art forms.

Some of the many topics the book addresses include:
- Why form is the foundation for all expressive art works and performances
- How to use composition to add drama and tension to artistic work
- How to foster the three aspects of technique to dramatically improve artistic expression
- Why perception and observation are critical to general artistic development
- The role of emotionality in expressing the artist and engaging the spectator
- How to unlock the subconscious powers of the creative mind
- How to use imagination to create unique artistic expression
- How to add vitality to artistic work with spontaneity and improvisation
- How artistic faith and inspiration can help the artist transcend artistic limitations

In addition to receiving book discounts and participating in free raffle drawings, BookCon buyers and visitors to Booth#2569 can take a free Artistic Inclination Assessment. Based on the artistic elements delineated in Hemphill's book, the assessment reveals one's artistic inclinations. For artists, it reveals those artistic aesthetics most dominantly expressed by artists in their work. For non-artists, it reveals those aesthetics most appreciated by individuals engaged in artistic activities.

"My participation at the BookCon premiere is to promote the benefits of my all-artist guide The Elements of Creative and Expressive Artistry and to demonstrate how flexible is in providing academic support to arts education programming and creative arts curricula or in assisting the solo artist engaged in self-development. It's also a great library resource book. As an artist and teacher, I feel that there is no greater purpose than contributing to the enrichment of other artists and educators. This is my life mission," Hemphill said.
