SUDBURY, ON, May 29, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- G. Kent MacNeill, B.Sc. (Hons.), OCT, President of OECTA Sudbury Elementary Union has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in educational administration.
Mr. MacNeill has 12 years of professional experience, with nine years as president of the OECTA Sudbury Elementary Union. Over the years, he has set himself apart from his peers through his determination and commitment. On a daily basis, he is responsible for representing members at all local hearings, as well as informing members about their rights and overseeing 450 elementary school teachers. Mr. MacNeill works particularly hard to ensure that collective bargaining agreements are implemented, and he regularly meets with senior representatives to resolve issues.
OECTA Sudbury Elementary Union is a Teachers' association that represents 45,000 professional women and men who teach all grades in publicly funded English Catholic schools in Ontario.
Looking back, Mr. MacNeill attributes his success to his passion and drive. He became involved in his profession after working as a lab assistant and a teaching assistant at Carleton University and after having taught several CPR and first aid courses at the Manitouwadge Ambulance Service.
Mr. MacNeill received a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from Carleton University, where he graduated with honors in 2000. In addition to his degree, he is a licensed private pilot. He was recently inducted into Worldwide Branding and also maintains affiliation with the Knights of Columbus as a former grand knight and a current financial secretary. He is also a labor representative of the Nickel Belt Riding Association and the St. Kevin Parish Leadership Team. In 2001, he received a student research award from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, having been recognized as Ambulance Officer of the Year in 1994 and Most Improved Ambulance Officer in 1993. In years to come, Mr. MacNeill aims to become a municipal councilor for the company.
