TAMPA, FL, June 12, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- GMC's midsize SUV, the rugged yet handsome truck-like vehicle, (1) has earned the top rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). GMC Tampa is pleased to announce that the all-new 2014 GMC Terrain received the Top Safety Pick+ with top Good scores for each crash test. (2)
Vehicles that are rated by the IIHS are put through a series of crash tests, including the Institute's newer small overlap front test. (2) Within the midsize SUV segment, nine vehicles were reviewed. The 2014 Terrain is one of two vehicles under the wing of the General Motors Company, to have garnered the top Good rating for the small overlap crash test. (3)
For this test, the IIHS looks at what happens when the front corner, (2) or 25 percent of the front of the car based on the driver's side, (3) collides with another vehicle. This also includes the vehicle's reaction to an object, such as a tree or utility pole. (2) To replicate the potential situation, a vehicle will move towards a five-foot-high barrier at 40 mph. (3)
The 2014 GMC Terrain comes available with forward collision alert technology. To increase rear visibility, consumers can opt for the backup camera in addition to the six standard airbags equipped with the SUV. (3)
Buyers looking for a midsize SUV may also appreciate the rugged style of the 2014 GMC Terrain along with the option of a V6 engine. For more information regarding the 2014 Terrain or to book a road test, contact your Buick GMC Tampa dealer. (1)
