TAMPA, FL, June 18, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- TraderPlanet.com, in enthusiastic sponsorship of the Hope High Dollars for Scholars Awards Program, presented the second annual Louis B. Mendelsohn Entrepreneur Award during ceremonies held on May 21, 2014 in Providence, Rhode Island.
The prestigious annual $10,000 scholarship established by Lou Mendelsohn, father of TraderPlanet founder, Lane Mendelsohn, recognizes outstanding academic achievement and demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit for business majors. This legacy scholarship component to the Hope High Dollars for Scholars Awards Program seeks to level the playing field for talented youths who have persevered through hardship and who might not otherwise have the resources to pursue their career in business-related fields.
The elder Mendelsohn, a 1965 Hope graduate, explains, "A remarkable junior high school English teacher and mentor, Lou Filippelli, and encouragement from teachers at Hope inspired me to apply to Carnegie Mellon University, which was instrumental in my future success as a trading software pioneer and entrepreneur. It's extremely rewarding for me to pay it forward by assisting future generations of deserving Hope graduates to realize their dreams through higher education coupled with ambition, perseverance and hard work."
This year's award recipient, Jean Rodriguez-Hernandez, will begin his freshman year at Rhode Island College in September, following a summer internship at CVS . His aspirations in becoming an entrepreneur in the construction industry are driven by a profound sense of obligation to help the homeless in his community. His demonstrated leadership in programs including Upward Bound, the Academic Triathlon and the Hope High school band, along with his strong commitment to improving the quality of life for his family made him the ideal recipient for this year's Louis B. Mendelsohn Entrepreneur Award.
The support of Hope High School Dollars for Scholars program exemplifies TraderPlanet's charitable mission which remains at the core of its business model. Lane Mendelsohn, founder of TraderPlanet.com, elaborates, "Each of the deserving scholars for this award amplifies my enthusiasm for American entrepreneurship. TraderPlanet congratulates Jean on this outstanding achievement."
