/24-7PressRelease/ - MIAMI, FL, January 16, 2008 - The Association for Women in Communications South Florida Chapter will host Connecting at Kefi, a stylish networking event to kick off its new, revamped structure and plans aimed at reaching out all segments of the Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade communities and better serve the needs of women communicators in our region. Guests will enjoy free martinis and appetizers while making new business connections and enjoying a relaxed ambiance. The event will take place on Thursday, January 31 at Kefi- located at 18851 NE 29th Avenue, Suite 102, Aventura- from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is $10 for members and $20 for non-members. By hosting this social gathering the Chapter is kicking off its plans to take South Florida by storm by offering women communicators across the region a new and dynamic space to network, acquire new skills, learn, and achieve their professional goals whatever those might be. The Chapter has laid out an aggressive events calendar for the year 2008 in order to serve the needs of its audience and help them become part of our community's business matrix competitively. Connecting at Kefi serves also as a call for women communicators to learn about the organization and become involved taking their own careers to the next level.
In order to achieve its aggressive goals for the year 2008, the Association For Women in Communications South Florida Chapter also announced a change in its leadership structure by adding the position of Co-President. Traditionally, the Chapter has operated heavily in Broward County. While Tonya Scholz, the Chapter's President, will be leading all Broward/Palm Beach initiatives, a Miami-based Co-President, Carolina Schwarz, will be conducting outreach throughout Dade. This change responds to an urgent need to reach out to our Miami-Dade constituency in a bid to incorporate all the segments of our community and achieve the goals of growing the Chapter, branding the Association throughout South Florida, and conducting heavy fundraising and promotions, thus becoming a national leader. Other goals for the year include the creation of two scholarships for the FIU AWC student chapter and raising the funds to cover the costs for two students to attend the national conference in Seattle, thus giving student members the necessary tools to help them become successful communications professionals.
The Association for Women in Communications is a professional organization that champions the advancement of women across all communications disciplines by recognizing excellence, promoting leadership and positioning its members at the forefront of the evolving communications era. AWC is committed to work nationally and internationally for pay equity for women in the communications workplace and for freedom of information.
