SAN DIEGO, CA, July 02, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jackson Design and Remodeling JDR) announced today that it has won five ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) San Diego Chapter Design Excellence Awards. Judged by its design-industry peers, the ASID Design Excellence Awards is one of the most prestigious and sought-after awards programs in the industry and, with 10 other design awards already under their belt, JDR's 2014 award winning streak grows to 15 and counting.
Striving for both excellence in quality of work and client satisfaction, the San Diego ASID Design Excellence Awards, are especially important to JDR's CEO, Todd Jackson, and his team as they are judged by their own peers in the design community. The 2014 awards honor projects ranging from a gentleman's room to two revived kitchens, a powder bath and a California Coastal whole home remodel.
"The ASID awards are voted on by our fellow peers in the design industry," said Jackson. "Our incredibly talented team of international designers brings innovative approaches and diverse perspectives, making sure each project is carefully considered to meet the homeowner's needs, down to the smallest detail. We are thrilled to be honored with five ASID awards this year, for projects ranging from bathrooms and kitchens to a whole home remodel. At JDR, we are committed to creating an environment that gives talented designers the freedom and resources needed to create award-winning designs. With an entire project team, from architectural designers to space planners and project managers, under one roof, it allows the caliber of design to be greatly enhanced, while ensuring the process is seamless for clients."
JDR's award-winning projects were earned in the following categories:
Specialty - 1st Place
The JDR team led by Senior Interior Designer Tatiana Machado-Rosas, Member ASID; Assistant Designer Alison Green, Member ASID; and Structural Designer Chris Ashby, created this gentleman's room in a 100-year old Tudor-style home. An existing guest room was transformed into a room for the gentleman of the house to store, appreciate and care for his collection of antique guns and other treasured objects. The room was designed with a respect for history, restraint and a masculine point of view. The design emphasizes bringing as much natural light into the environment as possible while keeping the overall tone of the room comfortable, subdued and elegant. Cabinetry was meticulously designed to conceal the area where valuables are stored. Detailed wainscoting throughout the room establishes the design's respect for the character of the home. Entering this gentleman's room with no modern technology but a dedicated attention to period detail and comfort feels like stepping back in time.
Kitchens - 2nd Place
The JDR team, led by Senior Designer Rosella Gonzalez, Member ASID; Assistant Designer Karina Kmiotek; and Structural Designer Chris Ashby, created this dream kitchen for a client with an enthusiastic appreciation of retro design. This sunny ode to kitchens of the past is a cheerful retreat for today. The client wanted a kitchen that expressed her fun, unconventional taste while providing modern convenience. Space was borrowed from an office to provide more open area and easier navigation in the kitchen. Retro-inspired appliances in buttery yellow are key design elements. Black trim against the yellow tile countertops defines the kitchen's lines. Playful positioning of contrasting floor tiles presents a quirky interpretation of traditional checkerboard in this classic kitchen with an original point of view.
Kitchens - 3rd Place
The JDR team led by Senior Interior Designer Tatiana Machado-Rosas, Member ASID; Assistant Designer Alison Green, Member ASID; and Structural Designer Chris Ashby, designed this space for a couple that loves to entertain. This kitchen, in a 100-year old Kensington home, was lacking in functionality and space. The homeowners wanted to significantly transform the kitchen while honoring the original Spanish design-influenced character of the home. A custom black hood above a white peninsula is the new kitchen's focal point. The black and white theme repeats throughout the room, particularly in the concrete backsplash. The design blends hints of European charm with a modern sensibility and retains its sense of place in historic surroundings. The clients are thrilled with their new space, which welcomes gatherings large and small.
Baths - 2nd Place
This small powder bath continues to rack up awards this year, already winning a Chrysalis Award, the NKBA "Best Bath" in the nation, a national Contractor of the Year Award and a Master Design Award. The design team, led by Senior Interior Designer Sol Quintana Wagoner, Member ASID; Assistant Designer Vanessa Tejera; and Structural Designer John Kavan, created the award-winning bathroom using Asian-inspired themes. The client, a couple that frequently entertains guests from their professional circle, wanted a new powder room to make a dramatic impression and express their affinity for Asian themes. The room is entered through an elegant black pocket door with Shoji-style panels. An ochre wall, designed with a trio of glowing niches to display collectibles, was built to conceal the venting system, allowing for the addition of a free-standing vanity with an arced onyx sink. A tile wall gleams in hues of ebony, gold and dark brown, illuminated by gold leaf lighting. Visiting this Asian-inspired powder room is a seductive, unforgettable experience.
Whole Homes under 3,500 sq. ft - 2nd Place
The JDR team, led by Senior Interior Designer Rosella Gonzalez, Member ASID; Assistant Designer Karina Kmiotek and Structural Designer John Kavan, worked with a retired couple looking to transform their bungalow into a dream home. With a home located in a very desirable part of La Jolla Shores just a few blocks from the beach, the homeowners wanted to live in beautiful, inspiring surroundings. The new home was built on one level encompassing a central living space and an outdoor area with a private Zen garden. Each material was carefully selected during the remodel, with the clients' attentive participation. The exterior is a high grade cedar siding with zinc (which will weather nicely next to the ocean) covering the entry for privacy. Inside, an expansive open area encompasses an entryway with custom niches to display art and collectibles, a living and dining area, and a dynamic kitchen. The whole home remodel also included two master bedroom suites and guest quarters. Once a humble bungalow, this home is now a stunning realization of California Contemporary design.
