SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, July 17, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Outsource Sydney has highlighted the key similarities between sport and business. Sport is big business and plays a huge role in the economies and the culture of many countries which is something that can also be said of small businesses. There is a competitive nature within the business world that can also be found on a sports field. A great group of fans can give sports players a huge advantage, a business also needs a loyal group of followers/customers if it is going to be successful. Another similarity is that success can be perfected through experience. Playing sport at a professional level requires thousands of hours of polishing skills that are very hard to acquire. It is the same with start-ups and entrepreneurs; they have to develop a valuable set of skills through experience. It is important to the success of small business owners and entrepreneurs to be knowledgeable, skillful, and have talent; those qualities are similar to those of sports stars.
The Executive Director of Women on Boards, Claire Braund stated that, "Sport has the power to change the lives of young women - opening up opportunities for leadership and development and transforming gender norms. It is equally important to have female role models in the corporate boxes and boardrooms as it is to have those who represent their country." The same could be said about the business world. It would be very useful for upcoming, young, female entrepreneurs to have female role models that are already in business and are available to talk and share experiences with these aspiring entrepreneurs via networking and other resources.
In a recent survey conducted that measured how female entrepreneurs are doing compared to male entrepreneurs it was discovered that about 40% of the women surveyed has started running a business within the last five years and nearly 70% of those expected their revenue to increase this year. But nearly a third of women surveyed said they think they have less access to capital and new business opportunities than male small business owners do, whilst only 18% of women said they think they have more access to clients than men do.

I definitely agree there are industries that pigeon hole women and that makes it difficult to climb the corporate ladder. But I am also a big in focusing on the things you can control and dismissing the things you can't. We as woman have certain strengths over men, rather than worrying about whether or not we are being treated fairly why not utilize what we have and take control of our own career paths," says managing director, Helen Poutakidis.
Helen Poutakidis has owned and managed successful businesses in both the UK and Australia and continues to prove that women can be just as successful as men in the business world.
