Sarah K. McCandless, CPA, Honored for Excellence in Accounting and Business Management

    NEW YORK, NY, July 28, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sarah K. McCandless, CPA, Chief Financial Officer of the Suffolk Federal Credit Union, was recently named a VIP member of Worldwide Branding. This special distinction honors individuals who have shown exceptional commitment to achieving personal and professional success.

Ms. McCandless has 18 years of professional experience, having recently become the Chief Financial Officer of Suffolk Federal Credit Union. Over the years, she has established herself as an expert in financial analysis, forecasting, budgeting, and developing strategic goals. On a daily basis, she serves as part of the senior executive management team while also managing all financial aspects of the credit union, as well as processes for various departments such as IT and Support Services. She also serves as chair of the asset liability committee, and she leads forecasting and budgeting operations for the board of directors.

In 10 years, Ms. McCandless can see herself as a CEO or COO. She previously worked as the controller of Bridgehampton National Bank, a publicly traded bank with $2 billion in assets. She has progressed throughout her career and achieved an executive position at the age of 38. In addition to her other credentials, Ms. McCandless is a CPA and previously passed the Series 7 and 63 exams. She worked on Wall Street as an equity analyst. In her downtime, she has completed four marathons, including the New York City Marathon twice. She is also a certified NAUI Scuba Diver.

While numbers and mathematics came easy to her, Ms. McCandless found that she also had an interest in business. While in college, she was a DJ at the college radio station and would frequently go to the local record store, where she made one of her first business deals. She asked the owner to give her a few free records, and she would give free advertising over the radio for his store. He agreed.

Looking back, Ms. McCandless attributes her success to having an analytic mind and a business mind. She also possesses the ability to recognize trends within the environment in which she works. She became involved in her profession after taking accounting as an elective in high school. Once the curriculum advanced to bookkeeping, she knew that she had found her passion. Ms. McCandless received a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Boston College. In years to come, Ms. McCandless aims to continue as CFO, possibly at a larger institution, where she can have more responsibility.
