For the past three years, Rhynette Hurd has provided expert alternative dispute resolution services to her clients at Blair Ridder Hurd PLLC, a Tennessee-based mediation firm. As mediator, she serves as a neutral helping parties resolve their disputes by encouraging them to listen to each other and carefully weigh the advantages and risks of taking their cases to trial. She also serves as arbitrator and special master in civil cases. She is noted for her expertise in the fields of family law, medical malpractice, personal injury, and employment law. As a testament to her hard work, she was recently inducted into Worldwide Registry and was named an AV Preeminent Attorney by Martindale-Hubbell in 2014.
Before opening her mediation firm, Rhynette served as judge for Division 8 of the Shelby County Circuit Court in Memphis, Tennessee. She came to the bench having worked as a transactional attorney at International Paper Company and manager of litigation and E&O claims at Sedgwick Claims Management Services. Prior to law school, Rhynette was an English professor, most recently at the University of Memphis.
Rhynette is a member of the Tennessee Board of Law Examiners and is vice chair of the Board of the Memphis Child Advocacy Center. She holds a B.A. in English Composition from Mount Holyoke College; a Master of Arts in Teaching from Harvard University Graduate School of Education; a Ph.D. in English Education from George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University; and a J.D. from the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law at The University of Memphis. She was editor-in-chief of the Memphis State Law Review and judicial law clerk to the Honorable Bailey Brown, U.S. Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit. She began her law practice as an associate at Armstrong, Allen, Gentry, Johnston & Holmes. Rhynette is married and has two sons and two grandchildren.
