McNaughton, Ph.D., Dean of the Centre for Teaching Excellence, Innovation & Research at Red River College, was recently named a VIP member of Worldwide Branding. Dr. McNaughton has 25 years of professional experience and is currently in her second year as the Dean of the Centre for Teaching Excellence, Innovation & Research at Red River College. Throughout her career, she has gained considerable skills in the areas of management and fundraising. On a daily basis, she is responsible for overseeing faculty development activities, program and curriculum development, library services, and teaching and learning technologies. She also writes grants, conducts research, and supports research and scholarly activity. In her previous role as Vice-President, Academic and Research at the University College of the North (UCN), she was instrumental in creating research infrastructure with the funding support of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
Prior to her current role as an educational administrator, Dr. McNaughton demonstrated a high academic performance record, which gained her a teaching assistantship and a full academic scholarship. She is the founder of the Kathryn McNaughton Scholarship, which is awarded to a second year student in the School of Education at Thompson Rivers University. Preference for this scholarship is given to a single parent who demonstrates an interest in Aboriginal or rural education.
She attributes her success to hard work, persistence and team management. She became involved in her profession as a teacher, and progressed into educating those in K-12 classrooms, as well as those working with adult learners. Dr. McNaughton has been an associate professor, dean of a faculty of education, dean of a centre for teaching excellence, and vice president of academic and research. Additionally, she has written successful research grants in excess of $1 million, conducted research and published the results, and been active in community development internationally.
Dr. McNaughton received a Ph.D. in elementary and early childhood education and teaching from Arizona State University in 1996, a Master of Education in elementary and early childhood education from the University of Alberta in 1982, a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of Waterloo in 1978, and a diploma in early childhood education from the Institute of Child Study. In years to come, Dr. McNaughton aims for continued growth in her career. She also intends to support educational initiatives within the post-secondary sector.
