ATLANTA, GA, August 15, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The gourmet specialty coffee business, J. Martinez, provides a brief overview of how coffee beans grown in the Jamaican Blue Mountains are cultivated. Given that coffee is the country's top export, strict quality control measures must be implemented.
What It Takes To Be Blue Mountain Certified
The Coffee Industry Board of Jamaica is a government-monitored regulatory agency that processes and certifies all coffee beans before they can be shipped out of the country. The Blue Mountain brand is famous worldwide, and only products that meet certain cultivation standards are given the popular seal of approval.
Although there are many differences between Blue Mountain and High Mountain blends, the most recognizable factor is the particular elevation of the coffee plantations. The names are a bit misleading as the Blue Mountain line is actually grown at higher altitudes (between 3,000 and 5,500 feet above sea level) than High Mountain blends (1,500 to 3,000 feet).
Interestingly enough, it is this difference in elevation that distinguishes the quality and flavor of the final product. Given the steeper inclines that Blue Mountain plantations are situated on, farmers are forced to hand pick each coffee plant upon reaching maturity.
If you have ever drank a cup of this coffee, you probably noticed it was much sweeter, less bitter and milder in taste compared to other exotic blends.
According to John Martinez, Owner of J. Martinez & Company, "These characteristics are the result of fertile soil that contains superb drainage properties as well as adequate shading from the nearby rainforests. It is by many accounts one of the Earth's supreme coffee-growing spots."
J. Martinez sells Blue Mountain coffee, Kona beans and many other brands. You can view a full listing of available products by visiting http://www.martinezfinecoffees.com.
