Ferman Nissan New Port Richey Discusses Nissan's Smart Rearview Mirror

    NEW PORT RICHEY, FL, September 03, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Nissan has introduced a clever new technology that may have buyers pawing at the product. Nissan New Port Richey is pleased to share the news as the device, called the Smart Rearview Mirror, will provide drivers with a clear and unobstructed view of the rear. (1)

The concept behind the automaker's new technology, which was installed on the Nissan Rogue during the 2014 New York Auto Show, is simple. (1) It combines the use of a 1.2-megapixel wide-angle camera that is placed inside the vehicle with a special LCD screen that is embedded within the rearview mirror. (2)

New Port Richey Nissan notes that the product may at first pass for a traditional mirror, but when necessary, the driver can simply flick a switch to activate the LCD monitor embedded within the conventional mirror. (1) At this point, the monitor will then provide the driver with a clear and greatly improved rearward view due to the images captured by the high-resolution camera. (2)

"[The] Smart Rearview Mirror will give our customers the best possible view, no matter how tall the passengers in the back seat or how bad the road conditions," said Andy Palmer, Chief Planning Officer and Executive Vice President of Nissan in a statement.

The view is unimpeded by obstacles such as backseat passengers, headrests or certain environmental conditions like rain or snow. It is even said to offer a clear image during dawn and dusk. (3)

Nissan's clever technology offers an added 31-degree field of vision to that of the standard rearview mirrors. The automaker plans to sell its device in the U.S. within two years with a goal to have the Smart Rearview Mirror offered across the whole Nissan lineup. More information is yet to be revealed, though according to Nissan spokesman Steve Diehlman, the price will be very reasonable. (2)
