In 2013, Nissan first cracked the top 10 of the list, landing at fifth place. (1) Several initiatives were mentioned as contributing to the company's being named one of the best: its commitment to electric-powered vehicles, its ambitious plan for EV infrastructure in communities and its support of sustainability goals of governments at several levels. It's easy to see the impact of the company's commitment to EVs with the popular Nissan Leaf all-electric vehicle, the best-selling EV in history. (1) There are already more than 120,000 Leafs out there on city streets, (1) and the Leaf accounts for half of the global EV market share. (1) Building on this success in the consumer sector, Nissan turned its attention to electrifying businesses. It launched the e-NV200 commercial van in June 2014, which, like all EVs, is a zero-emissions vehicle. (1)
In order to increase EV sales and acceptance, the infrastructure (recharging stations, improved electrical grids, etc.) has to be in place and easy to use. To that end, Nissan is working to triple the number of vehicle charging devices in the United States over the next 18 months. And as an example of Nissan's work with governments who want to decrease their environmental impact, the company is working with Bhutan to convert its official fleet to electric power. (1)
