Customization is what we do every day, and it's rewarding to be able to provide ADA-compliant doors for these very deserving people.
SUGARCREEK, OH, September 05, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Custom entry doors by ProVia, a leader in exterior building products, are featured in a new episode of the national A&E Network's "Flipping Boston" program, scheduled to air September 6, 2014 at 11 a.m. EST. The show portrays the remodel of a Boston Marathon survivor's home, which includes installation of ADA-compliant ProVia Legacy 20-Gauge Steel Entry Doors. ProVia's unique abilities for customization enabled them to build entry doors that comply with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). ProVia dealer Coastal Windows & Exteriors, of Beverly MA, is also featured in the episode with owner Stephanie Vanderbilt playing a starring role.
ProVia Custom Entry Doors - Adaptable for Special Requirements
The custom entry doors for this home will aid in everyday function and address requirements for proper door width, thresholds, and ADA ease-of-use specifications for wheelchair accessibility. ProVia customized these doors as follows:
*The ADA's Accessibility Guidelines specify that doors must have minimum clear opening of 32 inches with the door open at 90 degrees. The ProVia steel entry doors for this home have a clear width of 36 inches.
*People who use wheelchairs for mobility need to be able to roll smoothly in and out of the home. The ProVia steel entry doors for this home have an ADA-compliant threshold that is no more than 1/2 inch high.
*The ADA specifies that door hardware needs to have a shape that is easy to grasp with one hand. It should not require tight grasping or twisting of the wrist to operate. The lever handles on these ProVia steel entry doors are easy to operate, and can even be opened using an elbow.
"When we learned about this project, we knew we could easily fulfill this homeowner's unique needs," says Joe Klink, director of corporate relations for ProVia. "Customization is what we do every day, and it's rewarding to be able to step in and provide ADA-compliant doors for these very deserving people."
"For me, the highlight of this experience was being able to help improve the life of a Boston Marathon bombing victim," says Stephanie Vanderbilt, owner of Coastal Windows & Exteriors. "Something like that just hits home for any Bostonian."
