The FT8870 LED Driver Family is Announced by Fremont Micro Devices

    FREMONT, CA, September 15, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Fremont Micro Devices USA Inc announced the FT8870 Family of primary side drivers for LED applications. The first four members of the Family include the FT8870S (7W), FT8870A (10W), FT8870C (15W) and FT8870CD (22W). These high precision devices simplify LED lighting system design by eliminating the secondary side feedback components plus opto-coupler and are optimized for low cost non isolated Buck switching mode LED applications like back lighting of flat panel display applications.

The FT8870 integrates a 500V Power MOSFET that improves system reliability and lowers cost and complexity of the design.

The FT8870 Family operates in the induction current boundary conduction mode with demagnetization sensing technology. These devices have a sophisticated current sensing method with an LED current accuracy of 3%. The built in protection functions including LED open / short circuit protection, over temperature compensation, CS resistor short circuit protection and VCC under voltage lockout, which greatly enhance system reliability and safety.
