/24-7PressRelease/ - ROSARIO, ARGENTINA, January 24, 2008 - TypeTogether (www.type-together.com), an independent type foundry created by renowned designers Veronika Burian and Jose Scaglione, has announced a new business unit - Custom Font Design. The new unit will focus on custom, or tailored, font design for editorial and marketing use.
"Our main interest is in finding innovative and stylish solutions to old problems for the professional market of text typefaces, with a focus on editorial use," explains Scaglione. "Corporate branding and media companies require creativity in their fonts, with a heavy focus on legibility. This is where we see the greatest challenges, creating typefaces that perform well in continuous reading, but have enough personality to show."
The Custom Font Design unit offers advertising agencies and media companies custom type solutions, facilitating a unique look and feel that stands brands apart from their competitors.
TypeTogether's initial two text fonts, Ronnia and Karmina, have been well received in the marketplace, and are currently being utilized in a wide variety of magazines, books, and newspapers. Karmina won a Merit at the edawards competition and Ronnia was selected for multiple publications, including The Irish Times.
Karmina is a text typeface developed mainly for pocket books and budget editions. It was built to withstand the worst printing conditions: low quality papers, high printing speed with web presses and variations in the ink level of the printing press. Some of Karmina's most representative features are the rather large serifs, intended to work perfectly in small reproduction sizes, the sharpness of the shapes, including some calligraphic reminiscences, and the large and yet graceful ink traps in the acute connections.
One of the most remarkable characteristics of the humanistic sans serif Ronnia is its versatility. Ronnia's personality performs admirably in headlines, but is diffident enough for continuous text and small text alike. The heavier weights deliver very cohesive shapes, and they have been successfully used for branding and newspaper headlines. Its ten styles grant the designer a broad range of coherent color and texture variations in text blocks, necessary tools to solve complex information and editorial design problems. Ronnia has been mainly engineered for newspaper and magazine applications manifested in its properties: economic in use, highly legible, and approaching the reader with some friendliness and charm.
