BUFFALO, NY, October 10, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Suzanne Perry fell into the trap of a charmer who would reduce her to tears with beatings, rapes, depriving her of her paycheck and car, and keeping her in a bedroom while he partied with friends.
Having escaped three times, she also returned three times, with their three children, when she gave up and married him. The abuse was so isolating that Perry severed ties with her mother for ten years, not inviting her to their wedding or to see the birth of their youngest child.
Finally, Perry's daughter, 16 at the time, confronted her, promising to run away if she didn't change the abusive way of life. They made a pact and within two weeks during a violent episode, 911 was called and the husband, arrested.
In January, 2010, Perry founded 'OP Music House' a venture to promote peace through music, featuring local bands and businesses.
In August 2010, Perry began an annual concert series that came to her in a dream. Entitled "EXPOSURE Concert: Because love shouldn't hurt," it was a 3-day music festival and featured 43 bands, which live streamed around the world.
But, she was still shy about speaking publicly on the topic of domestic violence.
The next 5 years would teach Perry business development, public speaking, networking, partnering opportunities, and getting a thick skin.
EXPOSURE moved to a larger, 2-stage venue and in June 2014, EXPOSURE 5 had 50 bands play, and has landed big-named sponsors such as Regal Tip, Yorkville Sound, Guitar Factory, and Verizon Wireless.
In January 2014, Perry restructured and rebranded, with the new name of 'Love Shouldn't Hurt.TV.' Since then, Perry has been front and center stage, sharing her story on stages and in radio and television interviews.
Her mission is to educate the public, to prevent people from falling into the pit of domestic violence like she did, and to provide confidence building to help lift victims up, to live again, and find happiness again, after abuse.
The NFL media from the Ray Rice story has brought Perry the most media. "People don't understand the dynamics of domestic violence; what it is, and why victims stay. I want to help clear that fog and explain it, to promote victim empowerment and public understanding," Perry says.
In Addition, Perry is working with the She Rocks the Planet! channel in connection with the Women's International Music Network, promoting women in the music industry.
The company's Youtube channel, https://www.youtube.com/user/LoveShouldntHurtTV is featuring a video each day during October for Domestic violence awareness month 'DVAM' with tips, facts and other information about domestic violence.
Perry encourages people to send her questions that she can answer on the company's Youtube channel, "One of the characteristics of being isolated is that you think you are all alone, and that nobody would understand, listen, or believe you. That one question somebody might ask, is the same exact question another person has, and they need to know the answer too. It will give hope to hear us say, YES! I am listening! I understand, and I have been there. This is how I got through.. this could save thousands of lives by just letting them know we are here and we care!'
A crown jewel for Perry was receiving their 501(c)3 approval letter from the IRS last week. "I did a happy dance, then cried. It's been 5 years, thousands of dollars, lots of stress, financial strain, and times of doubt, but - I have learned priceless lessons, including trusting my intuition, to not be afraid, to take chances, to be courageous, of standing taller and just toughing it out. Perseverance won!'
