NEW YORK, NY, October 14, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The GarciaWeirGallery.com is honored to announce that the multi-talented Jerry Garcia will have his artwork on display in a museum setting for the first time. Jerry's daughter, Keelin Garcia, and his wife, Manasha, recently donated several pieces of the late virtuoso's artwork to the Centre National d'art Contemporain Le Magasin to be displayed in the "Art in Pop" exhibition, which opened on October 10 and runs through January 4, 2015. http://www.magasin-cnac.org/
"Art in Pop" showcases Garcia's work alongside other musician artists who have practiced art throughout the years, intermingling the worlds of art and music. The exhibition displays the art in a succession of rooms dedicated to the individuals and/or themes presented.
"My family is honored and very grateful to Le Magasin for this first opportunity for my father's works to be shown publicly in a museum setting," said Keelin.
Although the world has been blessed to have experienced Garcia's musical talents in his long tenured 30-year run with the Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia, the man, was much more than his Grateful Dead persona shared. As a youth, he attended art classes at the San Francisco Art Institute and over his lifetime, produced over 2,000 original pieces of artwork.
Garcia once surmised, "A line on paper is like a note in the air; it's out there and you can't take it back." He worked without a plan, using quality watercolors and Prismacolor pencils which have enabled his work to be almost fully archivable.
"My husband spent many days at home creating his wonderful artwork," said Manasha. "It was always a joy to see how much he loved painting and drawing. We are so very pleased that his art will now be seen in Le Magasin. His work truly stands on its own merit."
