In addition to apps like Openbay, Romero advised consumers to try new DIY methods, such as an on-board diagnostic (OBD) reader to decode errors such as check engine lights, in order to help demystify the highly specialized world of car repair. Another way consumers can save is to check whether their vehicle is included in Technical Service Bulletins (TSB), issued by NHTSA; which are available at Safecar.gov.
