PHILADELPHIA, PA, November 08, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Philadelphia employment law attorney Ryan Allen Hancock will present during a workshop on Nov. 14 at the Tri-State Human Relations Coalition Conference at the Pennsylvania Bar Institute. To register or for more information, visit TriStateHRCoalition.org.
Of Counsel at labor, employment and workers' compensation law firm Willig, Williams & Davidson, Hancock will be part of a panel discussing the legal rights of individuals with criminal history record information when seeking employment. In keeping with the conference's theme, "Working Towards Welcome - New Thinking in Our Communities," the session will cover Philadelphia's "Ban the Box" law, New Jersey's "Opportunity to Compete Act" and federal and state laws which allow or prohibit employers from rejecting an applicant with criminal history record information.
"Empowering people with criminal histories to obtain employment isn't just a question of fairness in employment law," said Hancock. "It's about working to meaningfully reintegrate a disenfranchised population back into our society. Erecting insurmountable barriers against people trying to re-enter the workforce is bad policy. Employment is strongly associated with reduced recidivism, and that makes this a public safety issue and, ultimately, a quality of life issue for everyone."
An experienced employment law attorney, Hancock is a passionate advocate for working people who have suffered discrimination in the workplace. He counsels and represents clients in matters relating to sexual harassment, discrimination, retaliation and whistleblower actions, wrongful termination, employee benefits, overtime and wage and hour concerns, and employment agreements, including contract negotiation, non-compete agreements, and severance.
Hancock co-founded and is board chair of the Philadelphia Lawyers for Social Equity and its Criminal Record Expungement Project. A 1999 graduate of Philadelphia's University of the Arts, Hancock earned his law degree from Rutgers School of Law in 2003.
