Breakout Canadian Actress Has A Blind Date With Jay Baruchel in FXX's Comedy Pilot 'Man Seeking Woman'

    LOS ANGELES, CA, November 07, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Raeanna Guitard, a little person who is one of Canada's most outstandingly unique actresses, is playing Gorbachaka in "Man Seeking Woman," a new FXX comedy television series starring Jay Baruchel.

The series follows naive romantic Josh Greenberg (Baruchel), who sets out on a desperate quest for love after being dumped by his longtime girlfriend. In the pilot, Gorbachaka is set up on a blind date with Josh.

"I play a co-worker new to the U.S. from Scandinavia," said Guitard, who is 4-foot-2 and has acted in Syfy's Primetime Emmy nominated "Defiance," "The Ron James Show" and "Scare Tactics." "The co-worker is going to set me up on a date with her brother who is recently single."

Of acting opposite Baruchel, who has starred in more than 30 films including "How to Train Your Dragon," "This is the End" and "Tropic Thunder," Guitard said, "Jay was amazing. He gave me a lot of enthusiasm and encouragement. It brought my own improvisation and personal skills to a higher level. I could really represent my personality in character."

The series is based on the book of short stories - "The Last Girlfriend on Earth" - written by four-time Primetime Emmy nominee Simon Rich ("Saturday Night Live"), who also wrote the pilot episode. Also starring are Eric Andre ("Don't Trust the B-in Apartment 23"), Britt Lower ("Unforgettable") and Maya Erskine ("Betas").

The pilot was directed by Jonathan Krisel ("Portlandia," "Saturday Night Live"), a six-time Primetime Emmy nominated writer-director.

"It was a privilege and pleasure to work with Raeanna," he said. "She displayed true flexibility, open-mindedness and extraordinary improvisational skills that were needed for her role. While collaborating in scenes with Jay Baruchel and Eric Andre, she showed a unique ability to really leverage her physicality in order to bring the comedic element into her character."

The pilot was shot in Toronto. Hartley Gorenstein and Broadway Video produced. Guitard made the most of her chance to join the show and left an impression on the production team.

"After I read the script," Guitard said, "I thought it was hilarious. I went in for the audition. I met with the writer, the director and had a 40-minute interview. I was excited to be a part of the production."

Guitard's prior film and television credits include critical roles in Storybook Productions' "Drive Through," Styx Productions' feature action thriller "Sacrifice" starring Cuba Gooding Jr. and Christian Slater, Lionsgate's award-winning "Repo! The Genetic Opera," The Hallmark Channel's "The Case for Christmas," "Mistletoe Over Manhattan" directed by the Directors Guild of Canada award nominee John Bradshaw and Syfy's Gemini nominated horror feature, "Carny." She will appear again in a future episode of "Man Seeking Woman" as a demon character.

FXX ordered 10 episodes of "Man Seeking Woman" in July. The show is set to premiere in 2015. FXX launched last September and is part of FX Networks owned by 21st Century Fox. FXX's current programming includes the hit "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" and "The League." This year, the network acquired broadcast rights for "The Simpsons," "Raising Hope" and "In Living Color."
