MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, November 14, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- This year Remembrance Day marks the 100th anniversary of the First World War with the premiere of a landmark documentary series, "The Memorial: Beyond the Anzac Legend" for the History Channel. Melbourne based digital design studio Visual Playground collaborated with Eyeworks Australia to create the Opening Title sequence for the five-part series.
The opening titles that Visual Playground designed and produced was nostalgic and respectful while touching on past and present, depicting iconic poppy flowers as a symbol of the sacrifice that young men made to Australia. The spot features Neil Oliver and transitions between live action and 3D generated spaces. This allowed flexibility in manipulating the custom made objects within the scenes. The poppy is the hero of the piece, so it was important that the designers made each one detailed and beautiful. Visual Playground modeled and textured an individual poppy, which Visual Playground customised so that the poppies were unique and life-like.
The poppies cascade into the Pool of Remembrance, which involved recreating the architecture and simulating the water in the pool as they touch down. Another major visual effect shot was the recreation of the iconic Wall of Remembrance. Individual letters fly onto the wall forming the names of the fallen war heroes.
To represent the passing of time Visual Playground included time-lapse footage of the Australian War Memorial creating a beautiful and moody atmosphere. The original sky was replaced with gold, dark clouds and the lights in the building turn on as the sunsets.
