LOS ANGELES, CA, November 17, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- La Isla, a couture swimwear and apparel brand, has announced the sponsorship of sailor Laura Dekker, the youngest person ever to circumnavigate the world solo.
Laura Dekker started solo sailing at the age of 6 and started her solo journey around the world at the age of 14 with the blessing of her parents, but not the Dutch government. She completed her journey at 16 years old, making her the youngest person to ever sail around the world solo.
She was born on September 20th, 1995 in Whangarei, New Zealand during a seven-year sailing trip her parents were on. She continues to sail and work in New Zealand before her next adventure. She loves how La Isla is "socially conscious and eco-friendly" and think more brands should be like that. La Isla is happy to support her sailing dreams as she fearlessly navigates the world.
La Isla is proud to welcome Laura Dekker into the La Isla family as she continues to conquer her goals. Laura joins an elite group of La Isla sponsored individuals, which include, Kimmy Fasani (Burton Snowboarding Team), Erika Vikander (Burton Snowboarding Team), Carlos Gracida Jr. (Professional Polo Player), and Sarah Fraher (Reality TV Star and Alaskan Bush Pilot). Born in a bedroom, La Isla has outgrown its physical origins but retained every ounce of its intimacy. Its growth into one of the most recognizable names in swimwear has been entirely organic. The brand is known worldwide for the perfect fit, stunning fabrics and unique hand embroidery of its swimwear and apparel.
Over the years, La Isla has been featured and recognized in publications like VOGUE, Sports Illustrated, Sports Illustrated Portfolio (hardcover book), InStyle, Marie Claire, Seventeen, Foam, Surfing Magazine, Transworld Surf, Bazaar, Zink! and in other media such as The David Letterman Show and on E! Entertainment Channel.
La Isla's manufacturing facility is in Medellin, Colombia, where all of the employees are locals and most are head-of-household women. The facility operates using as much natural light as possible, and uses digital printing for many t-shirts to conserve natural resources. And to support the local economy, all fabrics comprising La Isla's 2014 collection will be sourced from Colombia.
La Isla supports many charitable efforts, and has formed partnerships throughout the years with organizations like Children of the Americas and Jean-Michel Cousteau's Ocean Futures Society. Learn more about La Isla's partnerships here.
