RecallGuide.org Launches New Online Prescription Tracking and Information Sharing Resource

RecallGuide.org informs consumers about recalls, side effects and important notices.

RALEIGH, NC, November 20, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- RecallGuide.org announces the launch of a new website that will help consumers stay up to date on side effects of prescription medications and important safety alerts and recalls from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and other credible sources.

Consumers enter their prescriptions in a safe and secure personal account that then tracks all FDA announcements on the medications, keeping users informed on any recalls, important medical information and side effects.

Through December 18, RecallGuide.org will have weekly contests for the opportunity to win $25 and $50 gift cards. An example of a weekly contest may be to comment on three drugs you've taken, or share a few drugs on Facebook or tweet about them. The more contests that contestants participate in, and complete, the greater the chance to win the grand prize of $500. Winners will be randomly picked, and the number of entries gained will be based on the level of participation.

All contestants need to do is sign up and engage the online community. To get started, contestants add their medications to their MedBox and start tracking them. Then contestants share on Social Media and help other users learn about these drugs by sharing experiences, tips, side effects and any other relevant information.

RecallGuide.org is not a substitute for sound professional medical advice but is a supplemental notification and community-sharing tool. It is a free service where prescription users can share their experiences with one another online based on their personal use, side effects, complications, recommendations and more.

RecallGuide.org is similar to Allrecipes.com but instead of sharing recipes, users share their experiences, side effects and more about the prescriptions they use as well as the site being a very important notification resource center.

Americans filled an estimated 3.9 billion prescription drugs in 2013, according to the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation. Since the 1970s, numerous prescription drugs have been recalled, some that had been in use since the 1930s. According to the FDA, "a drug is removed from the market when its risks outweigh its benefits. A drug is usually taken off the market because of safety issues with the drug that cannot be corrected, such as when it is discovered that the drug can cause serious side effects that were not known at the time of approval."

The FDA also takes into account the number of people taking the drug so as to not negatively affect those people when the drug is removed from the marketplace.

Due to the scarcity of ads for withdrawn drugs online due to the manufacturers removing ads for drug recalls as part of the agreement to no longer market the drugs, knowing that a prescription is withdrawn is hard to discover unless the consumer is proactively checking its status constantly.

RecallGuide.org ensures its account holders are notified immediately and on a regular basis and members of the community can alert same drug users if they know important information as well.

The FDA does not review or approve advertisements for drugs before they are released and does not require that drug companies submit ads to them. According to the FDA, often they are viewing drug ads the same time the consumer sees them.

If FDA officials believe that an ad violates the law they will send the drug company a letter requesting that the ads be pulled immediately. Federal law does not prohibit drug companies from advertising any kind of prescription drugs, even ones that can cause severe injury, addiction or withdrawal effects.

The agency can stop drug companies from using reminder ads for drugs with certain serious risks also referred to as "boxed warnings." Reminder ads are ads that advertise the drug but not its use or side effects.

Federal law requires that the layout of drug ads meet the fair balance requirement ensuring that the risk information is presented in a similar manner to the benefit information including similar font size, headlines, bullets and amount of space.

Misinformation or lack of knowledge about prescription drugs can be deadly. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 100 people die every day in the United States from drug overdoses and the number has more than tripled since the 1990s.

The RecallGuide.org site is a safe and easy way to share important information about the drugs users take, their status, important notifications and the ability to share personal experiences, opinions and side effects with other prescriptions drug users in the community.
