BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA, November 29, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Whilst markets across the world were entering a period of sharp decline, Australia remained proud and resilient. The economy continued to grow at a rate that made it the envy of many other nations. In recent times, however, the economy has come under even greater pressure. How will it respond? The latest report from the Commonwealth Bank takes a state by state look at the economic situation. Here, LMC Interactive Services take a closer look at the report, as contained within the Brisbane Times, and look at how the Queensland economy can perform even better in the future.
"Queensland is the true heart of Australia, and is a real centre of innovation", said Cathal O'Malley, director of LMC Interactive Services. "Whilst these latest official figures show that there's room for improvement in the economy of Queensland, I've little doubt that things will look much rosier in similar surveys in future years."
The report concludes with an economic performance table which ranks all states according to their overall performance against a number of criteria. Queensland comes fifth in this table, behind New South Wales, in top spot, Western Australia, Northern Territory, and Victoria. One of the main reasons given for Queensland lagging behind four other states is the employment situation. There has been a significant population growth in the state, and this is one of the contributing factors to an unemployment rate of 6.4%.
Look beyond this headline, however, and there is some very encouraging news. The economic growth of Queensland, at 3%, is the second best in Australia. The projection of 6% growth for the coming year will once again make it the nation's economic powerhouse. Retail spending figures are also healthy, so that shows a good level of consumer confidence. There are major infrastructure plans in development, and it's thought that these could create another 25,000 jobs for the state.
"Queensland is showing great potential, but some people continue to suffer from job insecurity", said Cathal O'Malley. "There is a solution: entrepreneurism. By forming their own business, people can take control of their future and create stability for themselves. New businesses can also lead to the creation of new jobs within the local area. This will help both our state and our nation."
