General Motors recalled millions of vehicles affected by a faulty ignition switch, which can cause vehicles to lose power steering, power breaking and the airbag to not deploy. The risk can increase if the key ring is carrying added weight or if the vehicle goes off-road or experiences a jarring event, including rough roads. If the key turns to one of those positions, the front air bags may not work in the event of a crash.

On June 30, 2014, GM announced the terms for payment for victims. - Category 1 - injury claims, or those resulting in quadriplegia, paraplegia, double amputation, permanent brain damage or pervasive burns

- Category 2- injury claims, or injuries that required a hospital visit within 48 hours of an accident

The deadline to submit a claim was recently extended to January 31st, 2015 Vehicles included in the recall include:

- Chevrolet Cobalt (Model Years 2005-2007)
- Chevrolet HHR (Model Years 2006-2007)
- Pontiac G4 (Model Years 2005-2006)
- Pontiac G5 (Model Year 2007)
- Pontiac Pursuit (Model Years 2005-2006)
- Pontiac Solstice (Model Years 2006-2007)
- Saturn Ion (Model Years 2003-2007)
- Saturn Sky (Model Year 2007)
