Our goal is to change storybooks for young children from a passive listening activity to an interactive adventure.
OVERLAND PARK, KS, December 05, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- I-Adventure Reading has just launched its Kickstarter campaign to help fund a new reading app that will help children rediscover a love of reading. The app is scheduled for release in 2015 and backers are still needed to help pay for additional illustrators and app development work. Stories will be available for purchase for a cost of $3.99 and each story will have between 60 and 100 fully illustrated pages. At press time, the campaign has raised over $1,500 towards a goal of $10,000.
"Our goal is to change storybooks for young children from a passive listening activity to an interactive adventure," says CEO Marc Finks.
With the I-Adventure Reading app, children will be able to interact with the illustrated story and choose from different options on each page as to where they want the story to go - each book will have several different beginnings and endings. This will actively involve children in the reading process instead of having them passively listen to their parents reading to them. As smart phones and tablets dominate our age, this app can help children rediscover the joy of reading - and be actively involved in the story.
"Statistics show us that 29% of children have started using cell phones and tablets as toddlers," says Finks. "Seventy percent have totally mastered the use of these technologies by the time they start school. On the other hand, children's reading decreased by 8 percentage points between 2012 and 2013."
Research shows that children who develop good reading habits at a young age develop more extensive vocabularies, have increased attention spans and are better prepared for school. They are also more likely to have a lifelong love for books and a thirst for knowledge.
