GRAND HAVEN, MI, December 06, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Little ScholarTM, the children's learning tablet developed by School Zone and focused on preparing kids for preschool through first grade, is available for purchase this holiday season.
More than three years in the making, Little Scholar covers core curriculum subjects for young learners such as math, reading, spelling, logic, creativity and more. Exciting activities, bright colors, charming animations and music by The Verve Pipe's Brian Vander Ark, the pre-loaded applications on this learning device combine progressive challenge with playful creativity to promote learning.
Rated the Best New Product by "Tech & Learning" magazine, Little Scholar is available for sale at Toys R Us locations around Michigan and online at https://www.schoolzone.com/little-scholar. The tablet is available for media to test and demonstrate.
"We are confident parents will consider Little Scholar the best partner for their child's learning journey," said Jonathan Hoffman, president and CEO of School Zone. "Our world-class, Michigan-based design team has spent the last three years preparing for this moment, and we are poised to take the market by storm.
"Tech experts give Little Scholar top honors as the best 'out-of-the-box' experience. Our commitment to parents is to provide an easy-to-use device they can feel good about giving to their children without worrying that they might stumble into uncharted territory on the Internet."
Kids can begin their learning adventures with Little Scholar right away as the device comes preloaded with more than 200 educational applications, original videos, songs and eBooks, all created by School Zone and its educational developers in West Michigan. All kids have to do is turn the device on and it is ready to go without any extra charges.
Unlike some competing tablets, which can require changing cartridges, costly downloads or lots of help from parents, Little Scholar is easy enough for even toddlers to master quickly. It comes equipped with colorful yet rugged "bumpers" designed to withstand the inevitable drops and bangs, nearly seven hours of battery life and an extra-long power cord.
School Zone has also produced and loaded seven 22-minute episodes of a new live-action and animated children's video series, "Charlie & Company," starring School Zone's own mascot, Charlie, a lovable golden retriever. These episodes debut on Little Scholar and include original music from Vander Ark, front man of the acclaimed band The Verve Pipe, who lives in West Michigan.
Just for parents, Little Scholar features an A+ app that tracks their child's progress and can see how much time their child has spent on each topic or curriculum area. Little Scholar has password-protected parental controls, which include access to the device's control settings and a custom app store for additional downloads. Not only can parents see what their children are viewing, they can see what they are not viewing - and encourage them to spend a little less time watching videos and a little more time on math or reading.
Parents can even use an app management tool to choose the apps, music and eBooks that are active on Little Scholar, so they can tailor the content to fit the learning needs of their children.
Little Scholar may be geared for kids, but adults will appreciate these nuts and bolts. Little Scholar has a whopping 8-inch screen - larger than many adult tablets - and includes a Google Android 4.2.2 operating system, a 1.2 GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor, a PowerVR SGX540 GPU, 8 GB of storage (with Micro SD cards compatible up to 32 GB), 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, a front-and-rear facing camera and seven hours of battery life.
