OAKLAND, CA, December 18, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mervyn Fernandez of the Raiders and Darryl Pollard of the 49ers will be honored at The inaugural Seva Charity Golf Tournament to Restore Sight to the Blind, Monday, April 20, 2015, at the Sequoyah Country Club in the Oakland Hills, 4550 Heafey Road, Oakland CA. 100% of the proceeds go towards financing eye surgeries in the poor countries of the world. The Tournament is being produced by an all-volunteer team.
Mervyn Fernandez spent his entire career with The Raiders. His 18.01 average yards per catch for his career is first among any receivers to wear the Silver and Black. In 1988, Fernandez led all NFL receivers in average yards per catch (26.0).
If not for Darryl Pollard, the 49ers Super Bowl XXIII victory over the Cincinnati Bengals might never have happened. The 49ers late game-winning touchdown drive began after Pollard recovered a punt fumbled by John Taylor at the San Francisco 8 yard line. The rest--the 92 yard scoring drive and Montana's scoring strike to Taylor with 34 seconds left - is history.
Jason Frey, 3-time Remax Long Drive Finalist and other surprise celebrities will also provide entertainment at the tournament.
"80% of the world's 39 million blind people could have their sight restored by a simple 15 minute operation costing an average of only $50," says Jack Blanks, Executive Director of Seva. "I can think of no other way that so many lives could be transformed, for such a small investment."
"Seva specializes in curing blindness by performing low-cost cataract eye surgeries in the poorer countries of the world, such as India, Nepal, Tibet, Cambodia, and East Africa. Eye surgeries in the USA typically cost thousands of dollars, but are now being performed for only $50 in the Third World, due to innovations created by Seva.
