DOWNINGTOWN, PA, December 26, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rebecca C. Desmond, Retired Educator, Teacher and Building Leader of Downingtown West High School, has been named a Worldwide Branding Professional of the Year in Academic Instruction. While inclusion in Worldwide Branding is an honor, only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Worldwide Branding membership.
Ms. Desmond celebrates the conclusion of her 52-year career as a teacher and building leader of Downingtown West High School. As an accomplished expert in the fields of education and curriculum development, she spent her active years creating, developing, writing and implementing curricula for ninth- through 12th-grade students. She would regularly schedule tasks, and ensure that the budget was in order, and that school supplies were in stock. Serving on many Downingtown Area School District committees allowed her to bring a wide range of knowledge and experiences to her classroom that enhanced and broadened the student's opportunities. Thanks in large part to her hard work, the students of Downingtown West High School received a quality education.

She was awarded the International Tennis Hall of Fame, Educational Merit Award in 1998. In 2003, she was named Jim Verdieck High School Coach of the year by the U.S. Professional Tennis Registry, an international organization. In 2008, she was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the U.S. Professional Tennis Association, Middle States Section of which she is rated a Master Professional. Over the years Ms. Desmond has served on Boards of the many organizations, of which she belongs, in education, tennis and the community.
Ms. Desmond is certified to teach K through 12 Art Education, receiving her Bachelor of Science degree from Kutztown State College. She was awarded a Master's Equivalency through the Pennsylvania State Education Department.
She is a member of the National & Pennsylvania Education Associations, the Art Education Association, the National Art Education Association, the United States Tennis Association, and the United States Professional Tennis Association, the Professional Tennis Registry and currently serves as the President of the Tennis Collectors of America. In years to come, Ms. Desmond hopes to enjoy her retirement by contributing to educational programs both in the schools and the community.
