Mark Systems Teams Up with Rowan University to Benefit Students and IHMS Home Builder Software

HOLLY, NJ, January 06, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mark Systems, the leading provider of enterprise wide home builder software, worked closely this fall semester with Rowan University professor Dr. Adrian Rusu to create an opportunity for local Computer Science students. Together they created a project that would benefit Mark Systems customers currently using the Integrated Homebuilding Management System (IHMS), yet be self-contained so the students could work independently of the system. The result was the creation of a web-based interactive development mapping tool that allows builders to display real-time lot information and availability directly from their IHMS database on a site map.

If you've ever been in a builder's sales office, you've almost certainly noticed a map of the development with push pins or some other means to designate which lots are available and which lots have been reserved or sold. In this era of web marketing, maintaining something similar for online visitors can be both difficult and time consuming.

The students' project aimed to simplify and provide a level of automation by directly communicating with the IHMS database. The Development Site Map Project works by allowing an administrator to upload an image of a development site plan and associating that map with an existing development within the IHMS database. A utility allows each lot to be identified with a house record in IHMS. Once the initial setup is complete, a link is available on the home builder's web site. Visitors are able to mouse over any lot and receive real time information on the availability, price, address, etc. In addition, this map could also be displayed in a sales office kiosk for prospects to interactively explore the location and status of the lots within the selected development.

At the end of the semester, the students from Rowan University unveiled their project to the Mark Systems Software Development team. It was a success as the team not only led a very professional software demonstration, but accomplished all project goals and added significant innovation to the IHMS product.
